What's up, is there anybody else here?
If there are any real people here looking to network, leave me a post.
Oh, and yes I'm a real person LOL.

See ya,

I think we are in agreement for the most part, however the big picture concept that I'm not sure you're getting is the integration of UC into social networking and collaboration tools where UC becomes a feature and not the main event. CEBP may very well manifest itself within a Web 2.0 context but it's usually discussed in more structured business process such as supply chain.

Thanks for your comments

I don't understand your reference to UC as a standalone application. UC is just that, unified communications. UC covers all aspects of communication from real-time (IM, presence) to store-and-forward (voice mail, e-mail) and includes both the client side and the server side. There are many standalone applications for pieces of UC such as e-mail (Exchange, Sametime), voice mail (Cisco Unity, Microsoft OCS/Exchange), IM ("Communicator"), conferencing (WebEx), etc. UC has been defined as the attempt to consolidate all of these disparate technologies into a cohesive whole where the initiator selects the communication mode from a single UI. Gartner (I am not affiliated with Gartner) breaks UC into six areas: voice, messaging, conferencing, IM/presence, client and communication enabled business process (CEBP). An enterprise can mash-up applications from the first five areas to achieve UC but the most gains come when an organization can achieve CEBP. CEBP is equivalent to your Web 2.0 analogy where mode of communication and technology used is irrelevant. All that matters is enabling the business processes to improve communication and productivity. We (my department members) have unofficially labeled this effort as "Next Gen UC."
